Tent Camping with Kids

If you’re going to a state park that does not offer a lot of activities like a traditional campground you may be already wondering what you will do to keep the kids entertained. A lot of times this will depend on the age group of your children but one thing for sure is if you keep the older kids motivated with things to do they will definitely enjoy their camping experience.
Ages 14 to 18 can be the trickiest of ages they are into their friends and do not want to go camping let along any vacation with their parents if it means leaving the friends behind. So what can you possibly do? If you have the room let them bring a friend. Unfortunately at this age technology speaks a lot louder than we do as parents because of this reason we do permit our 14 year old daughter to bring her cell phone and anything she can charge via a car, or if we do have an electric site she can bring her cords. Portable DVD players, laptop (you would be surprised how many places have free WIFI), and anything else she feels will keep her entertained. What happens is she usually packs all this stuff and never uses it (other than the cell phone occasionally) because she gets into the whole camping environment.
Ages 8 to 13 can usually be entertained by playing games. What we do is usually go to the dollar store and stock up on what we call our camping activity bag. Inside we have baseball bats, waffle ball bats, balls, Frisbees, water guns, anything that will keep this age group entertained. It’s amazing what you can find at a simple dollar store that will keep the kids entertained without spending a lot of money.
